Scripting for Podcasts

The on-trend way to connect with your online audience.

2022 trend predictors are indicating that podcasts and social media videos are going to increase in popularity this year.

This brings a limitless opportunity for you to capitalise on the podcast and social media video marketing mediums, entering the game with thoughtfully created content that provides insight and value… all while positioning you as an expert in your industry.

If you’ve thought about streaming and creating your own video content or podcasts, then now is the time to transform thought into action.

And it starts with your words.

Planning and scripting is an integral part in successfully executing your podcasts or social media video content.

With a script in place, you are able to create an organised, structured and efficient piece of content that promotes your message, services or products.

So, where do you start? You start here. That’s where!

Here’s everything you need to know about starting the script for your own podcast, and how you can keep on track while maintaining a conversational tone.

1. Research, Research, Research

To begin your podcast script, it’s important to know and understand the entire purpose of your podcast.

Are you wanting to raise a specific topic or opinion? Are you wanting to voice your thoughts or ideas?

Why are you even creating a podcast?

Whatever the topic, be sure that you research your podcast to the point where you understand the data, the statistics, the facts and any contrary opinions. The more you know, the easier it will be to structure a conversation around your point of view.

2. Introducing the [INSERT NAME] PODCAST!

Once you know what your topic is, and consequently understand the main points that you want to raise during your podcast episode, it’s important to write a few introductory lines that you can refer to.

This could be something as simple as ‘Welcome to [INSERT NAME] Podcast, today we are talking about…’ and can also include introductory music that aligns with your branding.

You are then required to put your Producer’s hat on, and dedicate a certain amount of time (which you will highlight in your script) for the introduction.

You can find an example of how this looks on paper HERE.

3. Think Bullet Points

When writing a script for a podcast, you don’t need to write word-for-word if you want to keep the tone of voice conversational. All you need to do is write a few simple bullet points that allow you to keep on track, never losing sight of what the purpose of the podcast is.

Simple dot points that identify the particular topics of conversation, the data that supports your claim, the duration of these points and possible segues are enough to keep you on track.

4. Credit and Outro

Don’t forget to credit your sources and provide a call to action that you want your listeners to act upon. Do you want your listeners to subscribe? Follow? Share?

Whatever it is that you want your listeners to do, be sure to include this call to action in your podcast script and then thank the sources that have contributed to making your podcast one of substance.

A podcast can bring limitless value to a listener’s world, so now is the time to get out there and be heard amongst the masses.
